Doris Hunt leaves legacy of building brighter world

CHARLES – When Doris Hunt died April 2 at age 88, many in the Fox Valley lost a dear friend, but evidence of her generous spirit lives on."She was an elegant lady and yet so kind and sweet and gracious," the Rev. Melinda Hinners-Waldie of Geneva said of her friend of more than 30 years. "She was a wonder woman – because she was so persuasive and steadfast in her faith and what she wanted to do in the community."Hinners-Waldie said justice was a tremendous issue for Hunt, who co-founded CASA Kane County, which provides court appointed special advocates to help abused and neglected children."And, of course, she loved music," Hinners-Waldie said, noting Hunt, a fellow board member, helped the launch of the St. Charles Singers, originally the Mostly Madrigal Singers, founded and led by her son, Jeff Hunt.Doris Hunt also co-founded the St. Charles Art and Music Festival and was a lovely writer, she said."She was a powerful friend personally and to the community," Hinners-Waldie said. "And her joy in her own immediate family [was] large, but her family was all of the community."Jeff Hunt called her the perfect mother."She made each of us feel special, honored and was interested and supportive of anything that meant something to us," he said in an email. "She loved helping others and got involved from filling food bags at the food pantry and helping at the church rummage sale to helping raise needed funds for community organizations she loved and there were many."She had a joyful, loving, giving spirit and asked little for herself.
